Getting Started
Quickstart
Send your first telemetry to Owlpane in about five minutes. All you need is a workspace, a project ingest key, and curl.
1. Create a workspace
Sign in at console.owlpane.com and create a workspace for your team. A workspace groups your projects, dashboards, and alerting under one tenant.
2. Create a project and copy the ingest key
Open Settings → Projects (/settings/projects), create a project, and copy its ingest key (owl_ing_ followed by 48 hex characters). The key is shown once, is write-only for that single project, and only a hash is stored.
3. Export the environment
export OTEL_EXPORTER_OTLP_ENDPOINT="https://ingest.owlpane.com"
export OWLPANE_INGEST_KEY="owl_ing_your_key_here"
export OTEL_SERVICE_NAME="checkout-api"OWLPANE_INGEST_URL is accepted as an alias for OTEL_EXPORTER_OTLP_ENDPOINT.
4. Send one OTLP payload
curl -sS -X POST "$OTEL_EXPORTER_OTLP_ENDPOINT/v1/logs" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $OWLPANE_INGEST_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"resourceLogs":[{"resource":{"attributes":[{"key":"service.name","value":{"stringValue":"checkout-api"}}]},"scopeLogs":[{"scope":{"name":"quickstart"},"logRecords":[{"severityNumber":9,"severityText":"INFO","body":{"stringValue":"hello from owlpane"}}]}]}]}'5. See it in the console
Open Observability → Logs (/observability/logs) and filter by service.name = checkout-api. Your record appears within a few seconds. Check Usage to confirm ingest totals.
Next steps
- OTLP ingest reference — exact paths, gRPC services, and collector snippets.
- Log ingestion, metric ingestion, and distributed traces.
- SDKs — first-party npm/PyPI packages and OpenTelemetry-native guides.
- Ingest keys & authentication — header options and key rotation.
