Quotas & Limits

Plans differ along two axes: ingest allowance (how much data you can send, and how many projects you can create) and retention and feature gates (how long data is kept and which controls are available). Plans are priced by data volume, never per host or per seat.

A new workspace starts on Starter with a 14-day trial that gets Team-level limits (see Plans & Billing).

Reading the columns

  • Monthly ingest — the volume of telemetry you can send per calendar month. Starter has a fixed allowance; Team is metered with a protective cap; Scale and Enterprise run on a dedicated cell under a custom contract.
  • Projects — the number of projects in the workspace. Starter is capped; other plans are unlimited. See Projects & Keys.
  • Replay retention — the longest browser session-replay retention a project may set. Project settings cap at the plan value.
  • Audit retention — how long audit-log events are kept. Scale and Enterprise have no plan limit, though retention is never above 3,650 days.
  • Carbon window — the longest Carbon query window available.
  • Key gates — the features that distinguish the plans.

Feature gates by plan

  • All plans — every alert channel kind, the Slack app, importing on-call schedules, Kubernetes clusters, on-call schedules, Carbon attribution, and Carbon export.
  • Team and above — per-project ingest controls (keep ratio, bytes-per-minute cap, dropped signals) and snapshots to your own object-storage bucket.
  • Scale and above — SSO (SAML/OIDC) routing and enforcement, audit-log export, dedicated ingest endpoints, and namespace-scoped members.

What happens at the limit

Ingest allowance (Starter). The monthly ingest allowance is a hard limit on how much data the workspace accepts in a calendar month. Keep an eye on the usage bar on Settings → Plan & Billing (/settings/plan). If you expect to exceed the allowance, upgrade before you hit it — see Plans & Billing.

Protective cap (Team). Team ingest is metered, and a protective monthly cap bounds it so a runaway sender cannot produce an unbounded bill. The owner can also set a spend cap to bound usage-based charges.

Project cap (Starter). Starter allows up to 3 projects. Once you are at the cap, create no more projects — delete an unused project or upgrade. Team and above have no project cap.

Retention. Retention is applied as a rolling window. Data older than the plan's retention is deleted automatically; it is not recoverable after that. Longer retention is available on higher plans.

Feature gates. Controls above your plan (for example per-project ingest controls, snapshots to your own bucket, or SSO) are unavailable until you upgrade. They are not metered — they are either on or off for the plan.

Summary

LimitBehaviour when reached
Starter monthly ingest allowanceHard cap on accepted volume for the calendar month.
Team protective cap (2 TiB/month)Bounds metered usage; the owner can also set a spend cap.
Starter project cap (3)No further projects can be created until you delete one or upgrade.
Replay retention capA project's replay retention cannot be set above the plan cap.
Audit retention capAudit events older than the cap are deleted automatically each night.
Feature gatesThe control is unavailable until you upgrade.

Checking usage

Open Settings → Plan & Billing (/settings/plan) to see:

  • Data ingested this month against your allowance (or an unmetered note where ingest is not capped).
  • Projects against the project cap (or unlimited).
  • The billing period renewal date, and — on Team — the estimated charge for the month.
  • The spend cap, where one is set.

When a plan has a fixed allowance, the plan page shows the ingested volume against it. Where ingest is metered, usage resets at the start of each calendar month.

Upgrading

If you are close to a limit, upgrade from the plan page. Upgrades take effect as soon as payment succeeds. See Plans & Billing for the tiers, pricing, and billing controls.
